About our club

July 3rd, 2009

St. Katherines Judo Kwai is a British Judo Council registered club based in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. We practice in a small hall in St Katherines Church and have done so since the club was formed by Colin Anderson in 1986. The main aim of our club has always been to provide the children of the local community something to focus their energy on and give them some guidance as to how to develop as a good individual.

Judo is an excellent way to achieve this through the physical exertion of Randori (free practice) and Shiai (competition) and the self-discipline and trust required to practice the formal techniques of Judo. Whilst our main focus has always been the Junior and Primary age groups, we do have a very healthy senior section as well. As a club we do not put pressure on students to compete but those that do will receive expert training. We have produced several national champions and national squad members over the years. We try to strike a balance between the modern tendencies to concentrate on Shiai and the often forgotten Martial Art of Judo and it’s self-defence properties. Most importantly though we do all this with a smile on our face trying to have fun at all times.

Training Sessions

All our training sessions are conducted on a Thursday night and we run three seperate session based on age. The mat fee for each session is £3.00 or pay for monthly at the rate of £2.50 per session. If you are interested in attending one of our classes, please contact us first to make sure there is availability. We run a very popular club, and as a result, sometimes we have a waiting list for places. Do not hesitate to get in touch with us should you have any questions at all.
